Why Billie Eilish Would Cry At The Lyrics To Lily Allen’s ‘Smile’
Speaking on the 'Miss Me' podcast, Billie Eilish revealed why she would cry to the lyrics of Lily Allen’s 2006 hit 'Smile.' The 22-year-old singer, who recently released her new album, 'Hit Me Hard And Soft', explained that she "lost all" her friends when she “got famous." “I suddenly was famous and I couldn’t relate to anybody. It was tough. It was really hard,” said the 'Ocean Eyes' singer. Although her best friend Zoe stood by her side, her only other friends were her employees, and at her 20th birthday “it was only people that I employ." When one of her employees quit and stopped talking to her, it was “the worst thing that happened to me." Eilish explained that ever since then she finds it difficult to be close with people she works with as she is now “freaked out by loss." "I reconnected with a bunch of old friends and now, I have so many friends. I have a crew now! I could literally cry about it. It’s been the greatest thing that’s happened to me. I was like, ‘Guys, I have friends and I just love you guys so much, and it’s been so long since I’ve had friends,'" shared Eilish. Eilish said that Allen's lyrics from 'Smile,' especially the line, "With a little help from my friends I found the light in the tunnel at the end," inspired her. “I used to want to cry hearing that line because I didn’t feel that way,” she said, but now she relates to the lyrics in “every way."
