STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (AP) -- Junior Soto hit a run-scoring double in the first inning, leading the Staten Island Yankees to a 5-2 win over the Mahoning Valley Scrappers on Friday. With the victory, the Yankees swept the three-game series.

The double by Soto, part of a three-run inning, gave the Yankees a 1-0 lead before Eric Wagaman hit a two-run single later in the inning.

The Scrappers cut into the deficit in the third inning when Tyler Freeman hit an RBI single and then scored on a pickoff attempt.

Staten Island right-hander Matt Sauer (2-1) picked up the win after allowing two runs on three hits over five innings. Opposing starter Juan Mota (1-2) took the loss in the New York-Penn League game after giving up five runs and six hits over two innings. Garrett Mundell retired the side in order for his second save of the season.
