LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) -- Xavier Javier and Daniel Gonzalez combined for a shutout as the GCL Tigers West beat the GCL Yankees West 5-0 in the second game of a doubleheader on Friday. With the victory, the GCL Tigers West swept the short two-game series.

Javier (2-0) went six scoreless innings, allowing four hits while striking out one and walking four to get the win. Deivi Diaz (0-1) went four innings, allowing four runs and eight hits in the Gulf Coast League game. He also struck out one and walked two.

In the bottom of the first, GCL Tigers West grabbed the lead on a sacrifice fly by John Valente that scored Wenceel Perez. The GCL Tigers West then added two runs in both the second and fifth innings. In the second, Zach Malis and Perez hit RBI singles, while Vinny Esposito hit a two-run home run in the fifth.

Esposito homered and singled, driving home two runs in the win.

The GCL Yankees West were blanked for the third time this season, while the GCL Tigers West's staff recorded their fourth shutout of the year.

The GCL Tigers West swept both games of the doubleheader after winning the first game 13-0. With the win, GCL Tigers West improved to 3-0 against GCL Yankees West this season.
